Travel charged from the real distance
Add a travel line priced on the actual drive from your workshop to the site - not a guess, not a round number.
Travel is the charge most tradies either forget or round off. In Tradescraft you add a travel line to a quote or invoice and it prices itself from the real driving distance between your registered address and the site, at your rate per kilometre. Charge one way or return, add a markup or a discount, and it carries through to the invoice with the rest of the job.
Priced from the real drive
- Add a travel line to any quote or invoice in a couple of taps.
- The distance is the actual driving route between your registered address and the site - not a straight line on a map.
- Set your rate per kilometre once and the line prices itself from it.
- Charge the trip one way or return, whichever you actually charge for.
It behaves like any other line
- Put a markup or a discount on the travel line the same way you would on materials.
- Travel carries from the accepted quote through to the invoice, so it is never re-keyed or quietly dropped.
- A route that uses a vehicle ferry says so, instead of pricing the crossing as if you drove it.
Your rate, kept honest
- Tradescraft flags it when the rate you are charging has gone stale, so a number set last year doesn't quietly keep billing.
- The rate is yours to set - nothing is imposed on what you charge a customer.
Common questions
- Where does the distance come from?
- The real driving route between your registered business address and the site's pin, worked out by the routing service - so a job on the other side of a river is charged for the bridge, not the crow-flies distance.
- Can I charge for the return trip?
- Yes. Each travel line is one way or return, so a job you drive out to and back from is charged for both legs when that's what you agreed.
- Does travel carry through to the invoice?
- Yes. When a quote becomes an invoice the travel line comes with it, along with its distance, rate and any markup - so what you quoted is what you bill.
- Do you work out my tax deduction for the kilometres?
- No. Tradescraft prices the travel you charge your customer on a quote or invoice - that's a line on a document, not a tax position. What you can claim as a deduction is between you and your accountant.
